After last week’s city mayhem that left more than 20 people dead and hundreds nursing injuries, Daily Monitor asked readers to share their experiences of the riots. Here are your stories:

When the boots were turned onto the Fourth Estate
My sojourn into the field was purely accidental. As a chief sub editor, I rarely go to the field—instead sitting in the newsroom and waiting to process copy. But this was not your everyday story.

News filtering in on that Friday evening was indicating that the army had besieged the Kabaka’s palace—and the army spokesman, albeit indirectly, had hinted to us about moving troops “to secure the Kabaka”. It was a story that needed eyewitness verification—and that’s how I ended up joining our political editor Charles Mwanguhya and senior reporter Tabu Butagira—on the ill-fated journey—like Okonkwo when Ikemefuna was headed to the slaughter in Achebe’s Things Fall Apart
